I have an opportunity to pick up an older Holzher 1265 vertical panel saw to replace my ancient 1205. My saw is just warn out and the little plastic buttons for panel support are getting very pricey. The one I am looking at has the horizontal grid that shifts up and down to get out of the way when ripping. The plastic rails in this grid are pretty warn. I could certainly make wooden replacement rails but it doesn't look like the rails are easy to remove. Anybody had any luck replacing those rails?

I forgot to mention that the 1265 is a 1994 model.

I replaced all the battons on my '87 1265. It was kind of a pain but the price to get new holzher battons was more than I paid for the saw. I made new ones out of poplar, worked great.

Kevin: These look great. How did you get the original plastic ones out of the metal channel? They didn't seem to slide out. It appears that if they were pried out, you would run the risk of deforming the metal channel.

I had to take the entire batton off of the saw to access the screws holding in the plastic piece. Some slid out easily, some needed persuasion. Don't make the mistake I did and make the wood pieces too snug, you will regret it. It was a pain, but worth the savings.

My Striebig (orginal rails now 20+ years old) has wood rails still in very good condition. Plastic isn't necessary, wood works just as good.

Many years ago I commissioned a local mill to make these for us and we have sold hundreds of them. They fit well and don't cut your fingers. Unless you don't have anything else to do but make these then our price reasonable and less than the plastic ones from HH
