mortising jig

Does anyone know of a good jig for making repeat mortises perpendicular to a board's length? I have found numerous jigs for mortises to be cut parallel to the length. My mortises though run across the grain 90 degrees from the boards centerline. My work piece is approx. 20" long and I need to make 4-5 2" x 1/4" mortises on each side. I've done this successfully by strategically arranging wood remnants in my bench vise and using clamps and double-sided tape to keep everything positioned properly but I'd like something more permanent and easy to use.

A hollow chisel mortiser with a table that moves in and out makes this fairly easy. We use a Powermatic 710 for that type of work, and the in and out adjustments are threaded and operated by a hand wheel so one can even set stops for repeated work. The left/right of the table can be locked with similar stops.

I agree. A good mortiser can be had for a modest investment, and is worth every penny for furniture making.

Thank you David and Dave for your suggestions. After reading your replies I watched a YouTube video showing that type of mortiser and that's exactly what I need. The price range for the benchtops is pretty modest so I'll definitely look into getting one.
