google listing my business closed

5/5/20
Dave

google has my business posted as permanently closed.
I've tried to get them to change it they say its under review. I have been having all my customers edit google maps saying I am definitely open.
This is definately affecting my business' customers are calling asking me if I have closed my doors.
I am at a point I don't no what to do.
Any suggestions?
Dave

Dave,
Can't you just edit your own business information. When I google my business it shows I manage this business profile and have an edit button.

Do you have a free Google Business profile?

Open Chrome, sign into gmail, then follow the link below to edit or create a free profile.

I can't give you acutal links becuase they all want to edit my business and I don't want to sign out.

Google won't let me in to edit it.They say another account has claimed my business
I had trouble opening an account. They would send a pin number to my e mail,I would log in and it would come back they couldn't verify who I was.

Threaten legal action. They are doing financial hard to your business.

Sounds harsh but you need action.

I have called Google directly several times with nothing but stellar results. Find the number to call them and just call them up and see whats going on.

Dave,
Did you ever create a free business profile? If not whoever claimed you business isn't you. Claim this business isn't available for companies with profiles.

The best way to let Google authenticate you is use two part authentication and associate a cell phone with your gmail account, then they can text you and confirm who you are.

Once you get that done see if you can create a new profile for your business if never created one to start with.

I tried one number listed was no longer in service. The other for google ads is not taking calls because of covid
I know this is crazy but I have never owned an I phone.
All my customers are clicking on google maps and editing it that I am open. I have been reaching out to Google every way I know how with no results
You punch in my business name and my listing comes up with different directories and to the right is google maps with big red teardrop saying this business is permanently closed.
I could understand them saying this business isn't verified or up to date or removing me from google maps.but this is
downright wrong to list someones business as permanently closed.

I've been searching on the web and many people have had the same thing happen

I see this kind of s**t and wonder why would anybody list with google, facebook , angies list etc.
They all want far more personal info than I'm comfortable with, and it always carries the risk of whats happening to the OP
They all couldn't pay me to list with them.

Try calling the Attorney General in your state and ask them for guidance. Often they'll get you in contact with the right people at google

Dave,
So it seems like the short answer is you never owned or created your online business profile, it was created by visits, reviews and customers.

Don't call google ads, that is a completely different department.

Try starting at the link below and see if you can create a free business profile

Also in Chrome search for
google free business profile

Mark,
Business create free Google business profiles because its free and you can control the narrative. It doesn't require much personal information other than things like business address, hours and location and verify that you are who you say you are.

Dave didn't create a profile it was created by customers and visitors, someone came along and said they were the owner. Maybe someone came by a few times and Dave wasn't there and posted its permanently closed.

Lots of ways to not share personal information and still be seen online with big companies.

Dave will be out of business by the time he gets google in court. Lots of ways to solve this without a lawyer, but he needs to prove its his business and to do that he will need to confirm his identity.

Dave,
Email them a picture of your business license with the address. Hopefully it also has your name and that settles it.

Well the circus continues .Today they made me send them pictures of the business so they can further investigate.
I am trying to keep my composure but that is coming to an end.
If they would simply call me I think it could be cleared up.
I am convinced that google lists businesses closed in order to blackmail them into opening an account.
Why would you list a business if it was permanently closed, why wouldn't you simply delete it entirely. But if you put a big red banner on it just because the business doesn't have an account you are forcing them to open an account.

it's the same as the Yellow Pages listing your business closed because you don't advertise with them

Dave,
What I don't understand is why you never owned your own free business profile which is free and we have never paid Google a dime. Its the lack of ownership that caused the problem, not sure who claimed it but maybe they used your business location to ship stuff that never delivered.

I bought some PPE online from a company in New Jersey, turned out they weren't where they said they were (as shown on Google Maps and dispolayed on their website) and I fought PayPal for 4 weeks to get my refund

Lots of reasons to take a business that aren't on the up and up including a disgruntled employee, customer or competitor.

I did verify it over the phone a couple of times over the past couple of years. I do not own an iphone we don't have service at my business anyway.

The point i am trying to make is this .whether I choose to open an account or not they have no business advertising the business as closed. I have listings with other companies online such as Yellow book and some others. My listings are coming up fine but google maps on the right side of the screen says I am permanently closed. Which is my point if a business was closed why wouldn't you delete it .Why would you feel the need to advertise they are closed.

I would not be nearly upset if they deleted the google map listing .My phone number is on these other listings and they should have to verify the information. Google has not called here once

Dave,
Glad it worked out.
If you have WiFi at your business you can use any smart phone that supports WiFi calling (most android and iPhone's support WiFi calling), even if you don't have cell service.

I use WiFi calling all the time. Just enable WiFi calling from somewhere there is cell service, then you can turn it on an off as you want anywhere as long as you have an internet connection.

FORUM GUIDELINES: Please review the guidelines below before posting at WOODWEB's Interactive Message Boards (return to top)

  • WOODWEB is a professional industrial woodworking site. Hobbyist and homeowner woodworking questions are inappropriate.
  • Messages should be kept reasonably short and on topic, relating to the focus of the forum. Responses should relate to the original question.
  • A valid email return address must be included with each message.
  • Advertising is inappropriate. The only exceptions are the Classified Ads Exchange, Machinery Exchange, Lumber Exchange, and Job Opportunities and Services Exchange. When posting listings in these areas, review the posting instructions carefully.
  • Subject lines may be edited for length and clarity.
  • "Cross posting" is not permitted. Choose the best forum for your question, and post your question at one forum only.
  • Messages requesting private responses will be removed - Forums are designed to provide information and assistance for all of our visitors. Private response requests are appropriate at WOODWEB's Exchanges and Job Opportunities and Services.
  • Messages that accuse businesses or individuals of alleged negative actions or behavior are inappropriate since WOODWEB is unable to verify or substantiate the claims.
  • Posts with the intent of soliciting answers to surveys are not appropriate. Contact WOODWEB for more information on initiating a survey.
  • Excessive forum participation by an individual upsets the balance of a healthy forum atmosphere. Individuals who excessively post responses containing marginal content will be considered repeat forum abusers.
  • Responses that initiate or support inappropriate and off-topic discussion of general politics detract from the professional woodworking focus of WOODWEB, and will be removed.
  • Participants are encouraged to use their real name when posting. Intentionally using another persons name is prohibited, and posts of this nature will be removed at WOODWEB's discretion.
  • Comments, questions, or criticisms regarding Forum policies should be directed to WOODWEB's Systems Administrator
    (return to top).

Carefully review your message before clicking on the "Send Message" button - you will not be able to revise the message once it has been sent.

You will be notified of responses to the message(s) you posted via email. Be sure to enter your email address correctly.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).

The staff of WOODWEB assume no responsibility for the accuracy, content, or outcome of any posting transmitted at WOODWEB's Message Boards. Participants should undertake the use of machinery, materials and methods discussed at WOODWEB's Message Boards after considerate evaluation, and at their own risk. WOODWEB reserves the right to delete any messages it deems inappropriate. (return to top)
