Is this even possible and if so, how?
Thanks!

I don't know that I've drawn a tray ceiling, but I have done a vaulted arch ceiling. I did it in SketchUp and then imported it. I think you could also doctor the soffit object and use it.

Is there a way to draw a trey ceiling in sketch up, import it into cv and then have any cabilities to modify it in CV?
Do i need to do anything special to the file to be able to import the trey ceiling and walls to be able to apply objects to those sketch up walls and or ceiling? Or is drawing a trey into CV just a graphical item that i would just put into place?
Thanks!
From contributor ra
I did it as a graphical item. You could stretch the object in CV, bu that's about it. I had my room size the way I wanted it. Then sued that dimension information in SketchUp. Then imported the object through the utilities. tab.

What do u need to save it as in sketch up and is there anything special i need to do in creating the file in Sketch up to prepare it for the CV import?
From contributor ra
Keep the object as simple as possible. Save the SketchUp file as Version 7 type. Go through the import utility in CV. I used just one layer in Ske-up and then set that layer to my ceiling material in CV when importing the object. Jump in, the water is warm!

Thanks! I have the free version of sketch up 8. Will that work and if so, where do I go to save it as 7?
From contributor ra
That will work. When you save it, click on the 'Save as type" box and select Version 7.
Now, I don't mean to publicly flog you, but don't be so timid. It's unlikely you'll hurt anything. In the time it took for you type this and wait for my response, you could have poked around in sketchup, tried it, failed a couple of times, tried again, and got it into CV. You can do it, my friend. Poke around in your programs. Try this; try that. You'll learn a lot and most likely won't break anything. Enjoy the ride, and take my rant for how it's intended. And don't hesitate to ask another question!

I think I'm good for now.... Until I try it! I'll have to wait til monday cuz I don't have the manufacturing version at home, as I can only access the remote desktop that our dealers use.
Thanks Again!

Yes, everything works great in theory. Have a great weekend.

If you make a ceiling molding with the rise and run of your tray and then place it where the tray ceiling would be in the room you wil have it in your 3-D rendering. Make the material color and texture the same as your ceilings. All Versions of CV would do this
From contributor Mi
Thanks Leland. I know how to create a new molding in CV, but I'm not so certain how to set the rise and run. Help?? And once i have that, lets call it molding, how so i turn that into a trey? I assume I will create a "box" in the molding editor that is the rise and run, but how do you rotate the "molding" to say a 45 deg angle at the ceiling level? Thanks!
From contributor ra
Mike, If you're going that route, which is a good way, draw the "crown" so that you don't have to rotate it. But if you must, there is a check box for mirror-ing and rotating the profile.
FWIW, the "crown" profile would be a cross-section of your tray ceiling.

Ok, im a bit stuck... Im trying to upload the image from sketch up as version 7 and im at the import stage of CV and when i click Save, it tells me "part type not allocated for layer 0. What do I need to do?
From contributor Mi
Ok i got it into CV but when i go to drag it in, an error pops up and says "name of part that I named it" is not available in selected door style. Whats the deal?
From contributor ra
I'm not sure. What type of part did you select? I would select a room-type part, probably wall or ceiling.
From contributor mi
Leland,
is there a way, once a bring it to CV, how would I give the part intelligence? I made a 5" round leg and would like to be able to just type in a value for a new radius and have it stretch and shrink to it, instead of it making the shape oval from changing it from a 5" to a 10" radius
