Kerry , Just so happened I was about to flute some columns for a fire place surround and saw your fluting jig post .
I followed your plan except for the wing nuts , I just used some regular nuts and it worked out perfect .
Thank you for your time and expertise ,now I have no excuses .

I am currently adding some columns to my arches from a recent remodel in my living room to dining room. I was looking to flute the wood because I want them custom. I couldn't find any fluted wood already done to my wants or needs. So I really appreciate your knowlege and sharing it.The photos I just reviewed are so much more helpful. Thanks for posting this as it couldn't have been better timing. I'm going to post finished photos.

I've looked at a lot of jigs that would allow me to add flutes and yours appears to do everything the expensive ones do, but without the smoke and mirrors.
Thanks
The only changes I'm going to make are: 1) Set it up with jig knobs on top for quicker set ups; and,
2) Make wider stops on the bottom with the lock-knob bolts far to one side, which would allow me to spin the stops and lock something narrower than the router base.

I designed a router base that will make stop fluted elepticle molding about twenty years ago. I makes perfect molding avery time with only one set up for each flute. my thing is greek revival. I am a stair builder by trade and specialize in geometric stairs. I make every thing that goes into the stair. I would like to pass on some of my knowledge.
