I like the panel saw!
It looks absolutely beautiful, but I'm confused about the balance issue. It appears quite narrow for the weight and positioning of those heavy clamps. Does it not have a tendency to want to fall over? (I'm asking this seriously, as it looks like something I would like to consider building if that has not been an issue--I could always build it with a wider base, but it this works, space is space!). Thanks.
Rob,
Because none of the clamps extend past the outside of the base and angle inward, this places the center of gravity at the center of the base. There is no tipping problem at all.
My Door Drying Rack (shown in this same forum) on the other hand has the weight extending past the edge of the base so it requires me to add weight to the base to prevent tipping
Can you highlight and add some images for the saw in the back ground.
Thanks
I remember seeing one of these almost twenty years ago and built mine about 16 years ago. It is wonderful but I don't move it around very much. I keep it near the table where I do glue-ups but if I have something that needs lots of clamps elsewhere in the shop I move it there. My really long clamps are mounted on the wall. They're just too long for a cart like this one.
I'm always surprised to find that people haven't built something like this for themselves.
The store-bought ones seem awfully flimsy to me.
I'm tired of always having to screw down the clamps every time I store them. It's much more efficient to, for example, just be able to hang the c-clamps over a board or pipe. And why not have vertical 'trays' to just lay the pipe and bar clamps into? A few minutes saved every day adds up over a year.... Nice rack darling!
