Tom McFadden - Furniture

Listing #230   Listed on: 10/02/2006

I make high-end furniture and sell it in art galleries, on the web, and through national advertising. In the past I have done craft shows from the streets of San Francisco to the ACC Show in Baltimore.

In 42 years I have gone from a basement in San Francisco with a dirt floor to a garage, to an old cow barn, and then a house built over a creek. I built a dream shop, lost it in a divorce, and now have the building pictured here - it is on the back of our property, 200 feet from our house and overlooks a creek. There is an apartment in the back of the shop where my son lives.

I have taught evening classes at our local high school off and on for 25 years and acquired my taste for Oliver machinery there. I have written, not extensively, for Woodwork Magazine.

Wonderful shop, Tom. Could you tell more about getting your work into galleries and art shows. What is the sequence of events that leads to someone getting work into an art show? Thanks for contributing.

Have you found a source for grinding wheels for your Oliver 384?

Do you have a dust collector hooked to the 399 planer? If so where did you get it or did you make it? Could you send me a picture of it? I have a 399 and trying to figure out how to fabricate a connector.
