Fences showing the two radii
The fences are being fit to the shaper with allowances for the lower spindle nut and the head.
The fence is being clamped to the shaper and the depth of cut is set. The progressive cuts start high, and the head is lower for each pass. An alternate way would be to move the fences back - into the cutter - after each pass until the correct depth is cut..
The head is lowered on the fly into the fences to provide the next cut.
The completed moldings show a bit of variation that will be taken care of with edge sanding and final clean-up. The set up took about 4-1/2 hrs and the parts were profiled after 25 minutes, 4 passes each.
The compound curve in the project is the one that runs around the perimeter, meeting the beam crowns (single curve) and supporting the curved ceiling panel.
