After a month of working with clay I have finally got the customers approval of Jesus on the cross. So far it’s been a great experience learning human anatomy and learning so much about our Lord Jesus Christ, the little details and meaning behind each scar and location of the nails, etc.

The clay model is at 1/2 scale 36” tall and the wooden Crucifix will be full scale at 6 feet tall. I am really looking forward to gluing and carving. I miss working with wood since I am a wood worker I can see why. Good or bad please give me your opinion, Thank you!

Wow!!! I can't wait to see the carving. What wood are you using???? Ever carved dogwood??? The artist whom airbrushed my F-650 truck made a clay model and studied the carrying "cross" references prior to painting on that side...I saved the clay BUT I didn't get it kilned and finally lost the clay (dried up and crumbled)

I use a lot of dogwood. And while the color of the wood might be appropriate for skin, it is a very hard, dense wood, and it usually has too many defects to be used for a large sculpture.

Also, it was not found in the middle east, so there is no actual connection to the Crucifixion.

Since you're going with a realistic look, why not go with a face of middle-eastern origins?

Lovely work thus far. I like the strong and fit Jesus rather than the suffering-starved figure.
