This project was for a private residence in Chestnut Hill Massachusetts. The home owner will be using it as his home office and client entertainment area. Rift sawn and quarter sawn white oak was used throughout this project. The rooms presented a lot of challenges as it was a very old building and in keeping with the character of the house the hardwood floors were to be saved and refinished. Features included were: fireplace, bay window seating area, wall paneling, powder room, paneled ceiling, coffered ceiling, elliptical opening, and a hidden double door bookcase that opens to reveal a bar area. Every inch of these two rooms was covered in oak. We managed to complete this project in 12 plus weeks.

Beautiful work! Makes me think of a job I worked on way back at the beginning of my career. The guy I worked for had a job like this and it was all in cherry. The client arrived home from her home in Switzerland, walked in took one quick look and said "It's too dark, paint it all white!" and left we were all heart broken when we painted all that cherry! I hope your client is a bit more appreciative of your great work!!

Thanks for your comment C J,
The client and the architect were delighted with the end result, so much so that they offered us five other rooms to do on that project. I think if you're passionate about what you do, these types of projects will always find you :)
I can relate to your cherry project, its a negative that crosses our paths somethings unfortunately.
Best regards,

Good Job, do you perhaps have pictures of the work in progress? I`m hoping to see some details on how the ceiling beams and panels were constructed and fastened. I have never done something like this and always on the lookout for tips from professional guys.

Outstanding work Gene. A true craftsman!

Clearly this isn't your first rodeo and don't know if you would be willing to share, but how in the world did you price out the project? Was it T&M or fixed bid? Is there anything you can share to help others accurately bid a project like this to keep from loosing one's butt?

Impressive. Curve and arch work on wood really isn't common anymore. I don't know how to do it.

Wow! This is magnificent. I'm most impressed with the ceilings and the panel work on the inside of the opening. You can truly be proud of this project and also the timeframe in which it was completed. Now for the next one.
