The only reason I added the inlays was to cover up cracks that were made by a too hot kiln. The slab was given to me because the person that had it thought it was useless due to the cracks. I saw it as an opportunity to add some inlays, with the curly maple looking like a heat wave. I thought what better than flames to go with it, they covered up the cracks and look cool as well - win win. The legs are connected by mortise and tenon, inch wide by inch and a quarter long, glued with two part epoxy.
