Description
Newman-Whitney S-480 single surface planer.
Price is lowered to $5,000.
We will load side-your flatbed truck with our forklift.
Planer weighs about 6,500 Lbs.
Planer has about a 5' x 6' footprint.
This is a compact, single-sided, top head, industrial planer.
Has the Newman "Quiet-Cut" Helical Carbide cutter-head.
The carbide bits have good life in them.
The Newman Head is the best carbide cutter-head design for industrial planers.
The helical design planes the wood at an angle - a "shear" cut, which ensures that there is minimal to no tear-out of the wood, unlike steel "straight-knife" heads, which tend to tear out in knotty and irregularly grained lumber.
The helical design is also very quiet, unlike steel straight-knife planers.
That's why Newman calls it the "Quiet-Cut".
Planer comes with a grinder to sharpen the bits in the head.
Because it has a carbide head, you do not need to sharpen very often, either.
Newman Machine Company, in Greensboro, NC and
supports this machine with parts, tooling and service.
Has a 30 HP, 240/480 VT, 3 PH motor.
It is direct-coupled to the cutter-head.
It has a 5 HP motor for the feed-works.
Feeds fast and planes accurately.
Has high-yield chip-breakers, so is considered a "roughing" planer,
but it planes smoothly and is a good machine for roughing as well as finish work.
Planes up to 26" in width,
Opens up to 8" in thickness.
Table raising is by a handwheel on the lower left side,
below the start/stop buttons for the cutter-head and feed.
This is the last planer I have for sale, having retired from woodworking.
It was well maintained by my company.
Good machine for not much money...
