DRYAD STUDIOS
AS OF 12/1/2024, WE ARE AGAIN KILN DRYING WOOD FOR CUSTOMERS.
Dry Kiln Service.
We operate a 5000 bd ft NYLE dehumidification kiln at our furniture shop. www.dryadstudios.com
We will be offering kiln drying services, full or partial loads. All wood going into the kiln must be properly air dried to 20%. We can dry 4/4, through 8/4 comfortably. Thicker wood may have to remain in the kiln for 2 cycles. We dry 5000 bd ft of quartersawn oak from 20% to 5% in 30 days. The wood never gets above 120 degrees. In woods that are prone to bugs, we can sterilize at 160 for 2 days. Ash is the biggest offender.
Folks, there are a thousand little sawmills now, and most of what I have seen is iffy. Building furniture for the clients we have, we need good wood, ....and we know good wood and how to handle it.
Pictures are of the quality furniture we build and the quality wood used.
Go to www.dryadstudios.com and look at 40 years of sawing, kiln drying, and furniture building. Go to the Capitol Restoration page under Custom Work and see the furniture we built for the Capitol. Our approach to quality is not for everyone. We can't make good wood out of bad and we sure can't correct air drying mistakes in the kiln. 10X more damage is done to wood air drying than in kiln drying. IF YOUR WOOD IS NOT FLAT GOING INTO THE KILN, IT WILL NOT BE FLAT COMING OUT. PROPERLY STACKING/STICKERING OF THE GREEN WOOD IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP IN THE ENTIRE PROCESS.
If your tastes run to the more adventurous, and you want to try and build a house from the wood on your property.....talk to me. I have done it multiple times. We no longer do onsite sawing, but can produce precision sawn lumber at our farm/shop. If you know woodworking, and know what good textured wood is....talk to me. I have been using it for 40 years.

A full kiln load of 5000 bd/ft 4/4 oak/cherry/ash/hickory etc., at an air-dried starting MC of 20%, dried down to 5% and then conditioned back up to 6-7%, will cost $4,700. and take 30 days. We will consider drying quality lumber on shares.
The variables of partial loads are too broad to quote a specific cost. It will average $1.25/ bd ft to kiln dry wood in a small load. It all depends on the starting moisture, species, thickness, and a half dozen " mystery " traits for wood from different locations. The oak species in Arkansas have a 30% range in specific gravity/density
We can sticker and professionally air-dry your green lumber here, then kiln dry it.
We WILL bundle smaller loads, and will dry those live-edged slabs everyone seems to have. Do your, 'value-added', math and see if your lumber will double in price if it is properly dried.
Talk to us about your wood and kiln drying needs.....I have been doing this for over 40 years. The first hour is free.
Dryad Studios is located on a mountaintop,160 acre Tree Farm in the Ozarks. We are a few miles from the Buffalo National River Headwaters and Ponca Arkansas. We are adjacent to thousands of acres of prime, highland timber.
We have a Mobile Dimension Sawmill, and have been sawing our own lumber since 1978, Our website displays our furniture shop success. We are extremely discriminating lumber producers. Quality lumber requires fastidious attention to detail starting in the woods and ending in the kiln.
We have sawing capabilities up to 20'. Our dehumidification kiln dries 5000 ft at a charge. Our knowledge base includes 50 years of logging, and 45 years of sawing and kiln drying. Our furniture is in some of the finest residences worldwide, not to mention the appearance on the National News weekly of some politician standing behind one of our tables or podiums.
We know wood......at the molecular level......we eat, breathe, and sleep wood. The three kids have spent 30 years handling trees, logs, lumber, and boards in the shop. We talk about wood like a family member.
We no longer offer portable sawmilling. On site only. We can kiln dry lumber to 5%-7% slowly in our Nyle dehumidification kiln. Our most valuable talent is in Quartersawn Lumber. We have been quartersawing since 1980. Our Arts & Crafts furniture has been featured in Architectural Digest, Fine Homebuilding, and Better Homes & Gardens 'Wood' magazine.
